New Mexico Medicaid Reinstatement for Children
When the pandemic ended, children and adults were no longer continuously re-enrolled in Medicaid plans nationwide, and millions lost coverage. Thankfully, the New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA) announced that it will reinstate Medicaid coverage for 21,000 pediatric Medicaid enrollees. The Medicaid coverage changes begin at the end of July.
Under the new Medicaid program, children who are current Medicaid or New MexiKids beneficiaries will be continuously re-enrolled in New Mexico Medicaid until they turn 6. Children ages 6-19 who were previously disenrolled in Medicaid due to unresponsiveness will be re-enrolled for a minimum of 12 months.
How Will I Know If My Child's New Mexico Medicaid Coverage Is Renewed?
If your child is enrolled or was previously enrolled in New Mexico Medicaid, you will be sent a written notice of their re-enrollment status by mail. You'll also be sent a second written notice of your opportunity to choose a different health plan from the plan your child is automatically re-enrolled in.
The New Mexico HCA will text and email you when your child's Medicaid is reinstated, so be sure to contact your local Medicaid office to update your contact information.
