The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) and Division of Medicaid and Long-Term Care (MLTC) recently announced that it's expanding its Medicaid coverage for Nebraskan children with developmental disabilities. The expansion begins on July 1, 2024.
Under the new Medicaid coverage, children under the age of 19 with developmental disabilities may qualify for Nebraska Medicaid services even if their parents do not meet income or resource requirements. If parents of a child have private health insurance, this still does not disqualify the child from Medicaid eligibility.
Families of children with disabilities may also have more access to Medicaid services without requiring hospital-level care or being a part of the Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Waiver.
